What exactly is Not a Wedding Crasher?

Not a Wedding Crasher (“NAWC”) is a marketplace that connects vetted guests with couples who have open seats at their wedding. Instead of letting those seats go unused, couples can welcome respectful guests, offset some costs, and share their day with people who genuinely appreciate the experience.

In which locations can weddings be listed on Not a Wedding Crasher?

At this time, weddings listed on Not a Wedding Crasher are located within the United States. We’re intentionally starting in the U.S. to ensure a thoughtful, well-supported experience for couples and guests, and we plan to expand to additional countries in the future.

Why would anyone want strangers at their wedding?

There are many reasons:

  • No-shows or last-minute cancellations
  • Venue minimum spend requirements
  • Desire to offset costs
  • Couples who love the idea of sharing their cultural traditions
  • Couples who enjoy meeting new people
  • Weddings with lots of space that would otherwise go unused

Can I have a guest and host account with my email?

The ability to toggle between a guest account and host account is on our product roadmap. At this time, a user will need to use separate email adddresses to have each type of account.

Will there be a Not a Wedding Crasher mobile app?

A mobile app is on our roadmap, but today Not a Wedding Crasher is fully accessible through our website on both desktop and mobile devices. As the community grows, we plan to introduce a dedicated mobile app to make discovering weddings and managing guest requests even easier.

How do I apply to attend a wedding?

Browse available weddings, choose an event, request a seat, and get verified. Couples then review your profile and decide whether or not to approve your request.

What information do guests provide?

Guests complete:

  • Identity verification
  • Basic profile info
  • A short “about me”
  • Photo (optional, but recommended)
  • Any required prompts from the couple
  • Preferred attire/food/allergies if needed

Are guests guaranteed acceptance?

No. Acceptance is at the full discretion of the couple. You’re only charged if accepted.

Can I apply to multiple weddings?

Yes, applications are free. You only pay once accepted and you confirm attendance.

What is included with the guest experience?

Each wedding listing specifies what’s included. Examples:

  • Ceremony access
  • Reception access
  • Dinner + drinks
  • Dress code
  • Cultural traditions
  • Photography restrictions
  • Any special expectations

Are guests allowed to bring a plus-one?

Yes, but each guest needs to be signed up on the platform, submit a seat request, and get verified. The couple ultimately decides who is invited. We suggest including a note with your request that you would like to attend with a plus-one (who also requested a seat and is verified on the platform).

What happens if a guest cancels?

Each wedding has a cancellation policy set by the couple. Typically, cancellations within 72 hours of the wedding are non-refundable.

Why list our wedding?

Couples use NAWC to:

  • Cover open seats
  • Offset rising wedding costs
  • Support local vendors
  • Share their celebration with kind, respectful people
  • Ensure a full, energetic atmosphere

How do couples approve guests?

Couples receive applications and can review:

  • Verified identity
  • Profile details
  • Answers to custom prompts
  • Photo
  • Social links

Approve or decline with one click.

Can we restrict certain parts of the wedding?

Absolutely. Couples can customize:

  • Guest time windows (ceremony, reception, both)
  • Dress code
  • Photography rules
  • Seating restrictions
  • Areas that are private or off-limits

Do guests get our personal contact information?

No. All communication occurs through the platform unless a couple chooses otherwise.

Can we remove a guest after approving them?

Yes, if the guest violates guidelines. A refund is issued automatically.

How does identity verification work?

We use Stripe Identity to verify government IDs and match them to selfies. Additional platform-level screening helps ensure safe participation.

Are profiles screened manually?

Yes. In addition to automated verification, there are human checks for red flags or policy violations.

What does NAWC do to prevent fake weddings or fraudulent hosts?

All hosts undergo verification and must provide:

  • Proof of venue
  • Date confirmation
  • Vendor info (when applicable)
  • Identity verification
  • Additional documentation as needed

Suspicious listings are not published.

Are wedding details private?

Yes. Specific location details are not visible until a guest is accepted.

Does it cost anything to join?

No. Creating an account is free for both guests and couples.

What do guests pay for?

Guests pay the per-seat fee set by the couple. This is usually based on food, beverage, and overall experience value.

How do couples get paid?

Payouts are issued via Stripe Connect, typically five days prior to the event date. Not a Wedding Crasher earns revenue through a platform fee applied to each confirmed guest seat and is deducted before host payouts.

Is NAWC a subscription?

No. It’s pay-per-event for guests and free to list for couples.

How do guests behave at a wedding?

Guests are expected to be respectful, follow event rules, and engage with the celebration in a positive way. Think: friendly, appreciative, and low-maintenance. Please refer to our Code of Conduct for more information.

Can guests take photos?

Only if the couple permits it. Each event clearly states the photography policy.

Where do guests sit?

Couples can assign seating or allow open seating based on their preference.

  • Immediate removal from the event
  • No refund

Can couples decline guests for any reason?

Yes, as long as it complies with platform rules and nondiscrimination guidelines.
