Here’s a fun take on this:
Why I’m Here (And It’s Not My Wedding)
I show up to weddings the way some people show up to concerts — not because I’m the main act, but because I love the music. There’s something quietly sacred about witnessing two people choose each other in front of everyone they love, and I’ve never once taken for granted the privilege of being in that room.
I cry at the vows. I dance before anyone else does. I find the grandmother at the corner table and ask her how she met her husband. I stay until the last song.
I believe a wedding is one of the few moments in modern life where joy is the entire agenda — where strangers become friends over centerpieces, where someone’s college roommate tells a story that makes you understand who a person really is, and where the dance floor is a completely acceptable place to have a breakthrough.
I’m here because love, when it’s real and chosen and celebrated openly, is worth showing up for. Even when it’s not mine. Especially when it’s not mine.
